Epson Stylus Photo RX680 Photo All-in-One Printer Review

I received one brand new to find that some mystery error would not allow it to function according to the LCD screen. So Epson was good enough to send a replacement–a beat up refurb that actually had plastic pieces snapped off in order to get it to close in one piece. Turn it on, and this time the cd-tray would not open–The number one required feature for me in choosing this model. On the third try I received a fully functional unit that has given me 3 months of hassle free heavy duty service. I’ve printed hundreds of beautiful cds, paper and labels all work great. The scanner is actually SILENT — something I know is unusual after living with my Dad’s HP AIO that sounds like a mini jet engine idling. I got a CISS kit on eBay so it can drink all the ink it wants for all I care. I highly recommend this unit!

WORTHLESS machine – poolry made. Don’t buy it. – Dan R. – Iowa City, IA
Print quality is very mediocre. Requires constant recalibrating and realigning. The first one I bought did not work at all. It just gave an error message. Epson replaced it for free, but sent me one with a non-working scanner. (Drive belt was off track). Epson would not help on the second one and referred me to repair shops 200 miles away from me. Cost of repair was greater than value of printer. Really upset about this one. I used to love Epson printers for photo quality. Can not say that about this one – this was a total waste of money. Find another printer.

Do not buy from amazon there a to z policy is a lie they do not refund – Alexander Malykhin –
Do not buy from amazon there a to z policy is a lie they do not refund.
I bought the printer on amazon from KDF and they are worst rippoff seller ever.
sent me a defective printer. I spent sending printer back and amazon refused there a to z policy.
and lair Chinese KDF (don’t even speak English) told amazon that I returned different printer and did not refund.
I lost 9.00 rippoff.

Not economical wastes ink and money! – Rickey M. Horwitz –
What is there to say? The cartridges cost ea and require six. This machine loves to convienantly clog up. This means you have to clean the heads, which requires that it waste the ink on all 6 cartridges!!!!! So my black constantly clogs up and when I go through the cleaning cycle, I waste the remaining ink in the other five cartridges as well. I estimate that everytime you need to clean the heads, it cost . Epson intentially built this into their printer so that you go through your ink whether you use it or not. BTW- did I mention that regardless if you print in B/W, if a color cartridge is near empty, the printer will not print? This product is pure garbage, stay away!!!!!! Oh one last thing, I use genuine Epson ink.

run away – Eric and Kandace Nadeau –
Absolutely, without a doubt, the worst multi function printer out there. The push to scan feature doesn’t work well at all, barely compatible with Win7, bad print quality, fax doesn’t pick up calls, document feeder is weak – it won’t pull mutiple pages through when you’re scanning, sucks too much ink.

Use a pencil, crayons, and a fax machine at the local Walgreen’s. You’ll have better satisfaction with the outcome.

Worst printer I’ve ever had – Allen –
I have never reviewed a product on amazon before, but this piece of junk has caused me so much frustration that I am moved to vent it online. Every few weeks it just stops printing, and I have to uninstall the thing and reinstall it. On top of that, it frequently asks me to align the cartriges, but whatever mechanism it uses to align the cartriges is broken. The kicker is that it won’t let me print anything until I go through the motions of printing an alignment page, running it through the document feeder, and waiting while the machine makes all sorts of noises and flashes that the alignment page can’t be detected. I hate this printer so much, and it is so poorly designed, that I don’t think I will be able to stomach buying another HP product for a long time. Stay away – far away.

Ink hog – Price Money – Charlotte, NC
I always purchase HP printers, but this printer has caused me to switch to Canon and Samsung for my new printers. I use mostly black and white and actually purchased ANOTHER laser printer because this HP went through ink so quickly. I also print colored pages (about 10 pages per month–that’s all!) and the color ink only lasts for 2-3 months. It has been a huge money pit. Save yourself some cash and get a better printer that doesn’t go through ink as quickly.

False Carriage Jam on Both Printers! – Kathleen – Caldwell, New Jersey
I have this printer for at home and also in my office. Both constantly have error messages for “Carriage Jam.” There’s no carriage jam. If I could, I would take a bat to the printer like in Office Space.

COMPLETELY USELESS IF YOU RUN OUT OF ONE INK CARTRIDGE – JTB – Los Angeles, CA
DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER UNLESS YOU INTEND ON FREQUENTLY SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY FOR INK. Don’t even bother trying to use generic ink cartridges because the printer will stop recognizing the cartridges even if there is still a good amount of ink left.

If you’re talking overall quality, it’s decent; good scanner, and prints well (if there are no problems). But you can’t do ANYTHING unless all cartridges have enough ink for every color–no scanning, copying, or anything. It takes 4 separate cartridges and say you’re out of yellow, you can’t even print in black and white. It is extremely frustrating.

I HATE EPSON

This printer is always thirsty for ink – J. Valdez –

I do not recommend this printer at all.
I printed 23 pages of my tax return in black normal quality ink and somehow now I need to replace all cartilages again?!. Plus, They are amazingly expensive. I used to have a old HP and ink would last for generations. For this printer it last minutes at most.

I angrily contacted EPSON support and they very nicely offered me a free black cartilage which also means they acknowledge the problem.
Good customer support but terribly product (when it comes to ink consumption).

Ugly, bad, good – Saluki100 – Rocky Mountains
When I review computer equipment I like to include the “Good, the Bad and the Ugly”.

With this printer I felt the order needed to be reversed. This Epson printer is truly the first throw-away printer I’ve ever had. Hopefully the last one too.

The ugly; it has an ink system that “tells” you when you are out of ink whether you are or not – the printer shuts down and will not print even if you still have plenty of black ink remaining. Ink is expensive for this printer, you’ll spend around to replace the ink and it will not last long. After purchasing 0 worth of ink from Epson and replacing the ink cartridges the system would not recycle and still indicated all the ink cartridges were empty. Multiple contacts to Epson resulted in very slow responses (days later) and the bottom line was I would have to take it to a repair shop. The repair shop said it would be a minimum of to look at and repair the printer and recommended I buy new instead. I think it is poor business that Epson would rather loose you as a customer, and refund me the 0 for the ink that I shipped back to them rather than fix or replace this printer. No more Epsons for me, I just don’t have the time or patience to waste any more of my time with them.

The bad; A pretty crumby paper feed, it was always difficult to load the paper and it didn’t hold very many sheets so you were loading it frequently. I got it down pretty good after much practice but my wife never could get it loaded properly.

The good; When it did print, it printed well.

Bottom line – it’s cheaper to simply replace this printer when it runs out of ink than it is to replace the ink. Why would you bother?

Extremely High Ink Use – Mike W – So Cal
Epsom is down right evil. This printer was free when I bought a new laptop at Fry’s. they designed it to use so much expensive ink that they more than make up for it. You cannot print in black only. You can not print if any of the cartriges are empty. You cannot print if any of the cartriges are missing. This free printer is way too expensive.
